Evaluation and Promotion Policy

Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) :

The School will follow the new examination system Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), introduced by the CBSE, and refers to a system of school based evaluation, assessing the all round personality and development of the child. The system will require all the students to be regular in work and attendance all through the academic year.
The student's daily progress in oral and written work will be assessed. Evaluation will be based on a student's continuous and comprehensive academic performance during the academic year.
The term `continuous' is meant to emphasise that evaluation of identified aspects of students `growth and development' is a continuous process rather than an event, built into the total teaching-learning process and spread over the entire span of academic session. It means regularity of assessment, frequency of unit testing, diagnosis of learning gaps, use of corrective measures, retesting and students for their self evaluation.
The second term `comprehensive' means that the scheme attempts to cover both the scholastic and the co-scholastic aspects of students' growth and development. Since abilities, attitudes and aptitudes can manifest themselves in forms other then the written word, the term refers to application of variety of tools and techniques (both testing and non-testing) and aims at assessing a learner's development in areas of learning like :Knowledge, Understanding/Comprehension, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating & Creating.
The assessment will be done on the basis of regular scholastic and co scholastic grading, to be carried out all through the academic year.
Scholastic Areas consists of all the main subjects including additional subject/s.
Co-Scholastic Areas consists of:
(A): Life Skills:
[a] Thinking Skills(Self Awareness, Problem Solving, Decision Making, Critical and Creative Thinking ), [b] Social Skills (Interpersonal Relationships, Effective Communication and Empathy) and [c] Emotional Skills(Managing Emotions and Dealing with Stress)]
(B): Work Education: Cookery Skills, Preparation of stationery items, Tieing and dyeing and screen printing, Recycling of paper, Hand embroidery, Running a book bank, Repair and maintenance of domestic electrical gadgets, Computer operation and maintenance, Photography etc.
(C): Visual & Performing Arts: Music (Vocal, Instrumental), Dance, Drama, Drawing, Painting, Craft, Sculpture, Puppetry, Folk Art forms etc.
(D): Attitudes and Values (attitude towards Teachers, Schoolmates, School Programmes Environment and Value Systems )
Co-Scholastic Activities consists of:
(A): Co-Curricular Activities
[a] Literary & Creative skills(Debate, Declamation, Creative Writing, Recitation, Drawing, Essay Writing, Poster-Making, Slogan Writing, Theatre etc. ), [b] Scientific skills ( Science Club, Projects, Maths Club, Science Quiz, Science Exhibition, Olympiads, etc.), [c] Information & Communication Technology skills (PowerPoint Presentation, Website and Cover Page Designing, Animation, Programming, E-books etc.) And [d] Organizational and Leadership Skills (various Clubs)] Eco Club, Health & Wellness Club, Heritage Club, Disaster Management Club, AEP and other Clubs etc.
(B): Physical and Health Activities : (Sports, Swimming, Gymnastics, Yoga, First Aid, Gardening/Shramdan,).
The Academic Session will be divided into 2 terms, the first term will be from April to September and the second term from October to March of the academic year.
The assessment of Scholastic areas will be done through formative assessments (each have weightage of 10%) and summative assessments. Each term will have two Formative and one Summative Assessment. It is mandatory to appear in both Summative Assessments during the academic year.
In order to fulfill the objectives of Formative Assessment and to enable students to improve performance, the school needs to use at least 3 - 4 different assessment tools and Techniques of Evaluation during the term for Formative Assessment. All across the schools, the most commonly used tools/techniques are those developed by teachers themselves like Quizzes, Conversations, Interviews, Oral Testing, Visual Testing, Projects, Group Discussion, enactments, Recitations, Extempore, Debates, Practical, Oral/Written Activities, model making and Assignments etc.
Each tool/technique is important, not because it is assessed, but it has a specific learning outcome. The tools/techniques should be given importance. Since CCE is a continuous system of evaluation, the child also needs to be alert and should do the duties with diligence and sincerity.
The formative assessment grade may not be for one assessment only. It should be an average of work done over a period of time.
The school reserves the right to assess a student for learning disabilities and to assign remedial classes or programmes to students who have been diagnosed as requiring help.
Summative assessment is in the form of written examination conducted at end of each term.
No Formative or Summative assessment will be conducted for absentees. If a student is absent for a Formative or Summative assessment, he/she will be marked zero in it. A Formative assessment is as important as a Summative assessment.
A medical certificate stating a severe illness of a student may be accepted, on a form obtainable from the school office.
Parents are strongly advised not to send children to school if they are suffering from a stomach upset, fever or an infectious disease just because the class is having a test/assessment. However, a serious view will be taken of those students who regularly absent themselves from Formative or summative assessments.
As per the CBSE norms, 75% attendance during the academic year is required in order to be eligible to appear for Summative Assessments and no relaxation of any kind will be granted to a student who does not fulfill the school as well as the board requirements.
The evaluation of Scholastic and co scholastic Attainments will be in the form of Grades and Percentile Rank.
The assessment of students in terms of grades in scholastic as well as co-scholastic areas is to be done as per the directions issued by the CBSE.
All assessment with regard to the academic status of the students shall be done in marks and overall assessment will be given in grades.
Assessment of Scholastic attainments will be reported twice in a year. The nine point grading scale for measuring Scholastic achievements is given below:

Assessment of Co Scholastic Areas and Co Scholastic Activities will be reported once in a year. The five point grading scale for measuring Co Scholastic Areas and Co Scholastic Activities is given below:

Promotion Policy :

Promotion is granted on the basis of the total of the two grades (100%) which comprises the overall grade of Formative Assessments over the two terms (FA1+FA2+FA3+FA4=40%) and the overall grade of Summative Assessment (SA1+SA2=60%) in each main subject . Minimum qualifying grade in all the subjects under Scholastic Domain, Co Scholastic Areas and Co Scholastic Activities is D.
Overall performance of the candidate will be based on the achievement in the Scholastic Area as well as Co-Scholastic Areas and Activities (Under Scholastic Area Grades have been upgraded to the next higher grade in one or two subjects as per the total Grade Points achieved under Co-Scholastic Areas and Activities).
Up gradation has been done from lower Grade to higher Grade. No Grade in the subjects of Scholastic area has been upgraded twice.
Every student is required to get a qualifying grade D or above (after up gradation) in all the main subjects excluding additional subject/s in Scholastic Area as per scheme of study for the purpose of promotion to next class.
A student getting E1 or E2 grade in scholastic areas in one or more subjects will have to improve his/her performance in one subsequent attempt of improvement examination(within a time of one month from the time of declaration of final result.) to obtain qualifying Grade D in these subjects. Syllabus for improvement examination will be same as that of Summative Assessment II (SA2).
If a student fails to obtain qualifying grade D in one or more main subjects, even after adding grade points from co-scholastic areas and Activities, and after availing one improvement chance, he/she will be required to repeat the same class during next academic year.

Unfair Means :

At the heart of any school curriculum is assessment. Behind any system of assessment must be the following assurance: (up to 290)

that the student's submission is his own that any assessment method is sacrosanct in the sense.
that students have access to the testing method at the same time and in the same way.
that submissions for assessment are completed in the required time period, whether these submissions are done at school or at home.
that submissions are done according to methods and using devices and aids that are permitted.
that all student academic records and certificates are secure and cannot be altered.
This code deals with major forms of academic dishonesty that harm the assessment system including cheating, plagiarism and falsification, tampering and forging, and other forms of misrepresentation including malingering.

during the course of examination/assessment, a candidate is found indulging in any of the following (up to 309) but is not restricted to, he/she shall be deemed to have used unfair means at the examinations:

Having in possession papers, books, notes or any other material or information relevant to the examination in the paper concerned.
Giving or receiving assistance, directly or indirectly(copying or knowingly allowing another student to copy from each other's answer book) of any kind or attempting to do so.
Writing questions or answers on any material other than the answer book given by the Centre Superintendent for writing answers.
Tearing of any page of the answer book or supplementary answer book etc.
Contacting or communicating (verbally or in writing) or trying to do so with any person, other than the Examination Staff, during the examination time in the examination centre.
Taking away the answer book out of the examination hall/room.
Using or attempting to use any other undesirable method or means, unauthorized devices (calculating/listening devices, cell phones and Other forms of electronic gadgets) and aids in connection with the examination.
Smuggling out Question Paper or its part; or smuggling out answer book/supplementary answer sheet or part thereof.
Threatening any of the officials connected with the conduct of the examinations or threatening of any of the candidates.
Collaborating in any form with another student or with non-students on a test, examination/assessment, or assignment, including purchasing a report or project from anyone.
Impersonating another student for the purpose of taking a test or examination or Submitting a home assignment.
Working on a test, examination/assessment, or assignment after the permitted time.
Making plans to cheat, with or without another's help, is considered cheating.
Plagiarism: pass off someone else's work as one's own without giving the person credit or a reference note of the original source, use of another person's data, exact words(without quotation marks ), ideas(concepts, arguments, lines of reasoning, opinions, points of view, or even the way an essay or project is organized), or creations.
Falsification: cite a source or make up references which does not support the data, words, or ideas you claim to have got from the source, submit a work of art, music composition, article for publication, or film, video, and photographic image that is not produced by you as if it is your product.
Tampering and forging: tampering with the assessment of tests, assessment, assignments; school's assessment records; recommendation letters and forms OR forging signatures and seals of the school OR submitting a personal statement or project which has been authored/ prepared by someone else including a professional agency.
Misrepresentation and dishonesty: submitting an assignment for more than one subject without permission and knowledge of the teachers concerned, OR hiding or denying to other students, academic materials that have been recommended or made available to them (e.g. in the library or in the classroom), OR stealing, damaging or depriving another student's textbooks, notebooks, notes, or other study related materials in order to hurt his academic prospects OR knowingly misleading another student about academic policy or requirements OR misleading the school about your achievements and awards.
Malingering: pretend to be medically unfit to take a test/examination or to submit an assignment on time OR asking for special provisions such as requesting extra time in a test or examination, the postponement of a test or examination OR use of fraudulent supporting documents from a medical practitioner.
If, after a student has left the school, the school learns of the tampering or forging of mark sheets and recommendation materials, it may write to the institutions concerned to investigate the matter.

candidate found guilty of any of the unfair means mentioned at above will face punishments and penalties including but not limited to: (up to 314)

The award of a zero mark or E1/E2grade for the affected assignment, test, or assessment, which will then appear in the mark sheets issued by the school. Serious action can be taken against a repetitive defaulter.
The school reserves the right to suspend or expel a student if his involvement in academic dishonesty justifies such an action.
May be disqualified from the examination in that year (i.e. his/her examination for that year may be cancelled).
In addition, if the school determines that the credibility of a test or examination has been affected by the use of unfair means, and the identity of those students who used unfair means is not known, it may hold a fresh test or examination for all candidates.
They will also not be eligible for any academic award or the student council.

Effective Study Habits :

Budget your time and study/revise/practice every day, every subject.
Avoid late house of work it prevents you from being alert during the day it is only false glamour.
Organize yourself to make an early start as early as possible because the morning hours are the most valuable for serious work.
Allot more time for difficult work and revise work done on the same day it saves time.
Rest periods are advisable but keep them short (5 minutes or so). Longer rests destroy the momentum.
Keep a diary or journal, for it helps you identify your good days and bad days.
Learning advances tend to come in bursts as you gain fresh insight into the subject.
Understanding subject help learning. This cab comes only when you link new knowledge to old and you organize and systematise this knowledge.
Thinking over the subject, writing summaries, talking to other students, help fixit clearly in mind.
Relearning and revision help keep knowledge at functional levels. Set your goals wisely and work towards them in a planned manner.

On the day of the examination :

Check properly things to be carried for the exams like admit card, stationery etc.
Reach the examination hall at least five minutes before the commencement of the paper especially on the first day.
Visit the washroom before entering the hall.
No written material, calculators, textbooks and mobile should be carried inside the hall.
Make good use of 15 minute reading time and read the question paper thoroughly and keep at least 15 minutes for the revision.
Attempt the paper in the chronological order.
Presentation of the written matter is important and main points should be highlighted. A line should be left before starting the next question.
Use pencil for the diagrams and label appropriately.
Concentrate and keep your eyes on your paper and avoid eye contact with other students.
Make sure the details asked in the paper are filled properly before submitting.
